Brexit: how will Seabase deliveries work from 1st January 2021

From 1st January 2021 here is how orders within the EU are processed:

  • seabase.eu ships from the UK.
  • Customers outside the UK pay prices excluding VAT.
  • To tell the website you should not pay VAT simply select the correct country under the ‘Pay Now’ area of the site.
  • DHL/FedEx/TNT will ship to you and send you a message to say your parcel is being cleared by EU Customs – this is sometimes done before it leaves Seabase to save you delivery time.
  • EU Customs will re-charge you the VAT that we did not charge you.  However that VAT will be at your country’s prevailing rate.  Customs or DHL/UPS/FedEx/TNT etc. may charge you a small administration fee for this service which is normally around 14 euros.  Seabase has no control of your local country’s clearance fees or VAT rate.
  • If you are VAT registered in your home country then of course this is no cost to you.

Do products cost you more after Brexit?

It depends – the pricing is pretty much the same.  The UK VAT rate is 20% and this is what you used to pay.   EU countries have VAT rates between 19% and 25% so you may pay a little more or a little less VAT when your order arrives.  The clearance fee charged by your country is a fee we do not have control over – this varies.  For example in the UK this fee can be negotiated with the shipping country.

We pack and secure our products for safe delivery in UN approved containers and boxes. SWe use responsible and approved freight companies world-wide.

When you receive goods delivered by you need to know how transport companies try to minimise their responsibility and make you responsible for their mistakes. When you receive goods make sure you and your employees understand the rules:

  1. Check the number of packages you are being offered and make sure it is the same number shown on the carrier’s despatch note. If you sign for three packages and later discover you only have two, the carrier is under no obligation to find (or even look for) the missing package. It’s your loss without recourse.
  2. Check the outer packaging and open and check the products inside their boxes for any sign of damage. If there is the slightest indication that damage may have occurred sign the Carrier’s despatch note as “DAMAGED GOODS”. If you fail to do this and later find that the goods have been damaged, you will have no claim on the carrier whatsoever, or Seabase. If the goods turn out to be ok… no damage done, as it were.
  3. It’s no good signing for the goods, and then telling the Boss that they are damaged! By then it’s too late and the Carrier cannot be held responsible for the damage which has occurred in transit.
  4. And it’s no good telling us! We will be sorry to hear about your loss, but we send out materials in good order and cannot be held responsible for damage that occurs on the way if you do not sign for the products in the manor specified above.
  5. If you need time to check the goods, make the Carrier wait. And don’t be tempted to sign for goods as “received un-checked”. It has no legal standing, and will leave you exposed to the same consequences as signing for them as received in good condition.

If you open the packages and there are goods missing – tell us as soon as possible (but within 3 working days) so we can check our despatch and if necessary, rectify our mistake. No one’s perfect but we accept our responsibility for filling the boxes and loading the pallets correctly.

Be careful – look once (count the packages), look twice (check for internal and external damage), and above all look out – or you may be letting the carriers of the hook and subsidising their profits!

In accordance with EC Directive’s and UK Law, we provide a 7-day cancellation starting from the day after the goods are received (a cooling off period), during which you have the right to cancel your order for any reason. To exercise this right, please contact us. You will be liable to pay the carriage / postage charges involved in returning the goods, and if we are charged for the return we reserve the right to deduct the cost from the amount to be refunded. Once you have told us that you want to cancel your order, we will normally refund your order the day we receive the goods in their original condition, or no later than 30 days of notifying us of your wish to cancel.

This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

We offer a returns policy on goods that are not suitable or for other reasons such as defects – this also operates under a 7 day period from the time of receipt of the goods, but if there is a defect, this extends depending on the type of product. Most of the products on the site have their own manufacturing warranties which we will take up for you with the manufacturer. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

Seabase takes care to ensure that all weights, measurements and descriptions of their products are accurate so the buyer will know exactly what they are buying. The price displayed will exclude VAT but shows VAT (in parentheses) so that you know exactly how much is being spent.

Other non-optional costs the buyer will incur, such as delivery or packing charges, are at the check-out. You will have the option to cancel your order if you do not agree with the freight/carriage charges. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

Seabase wants you to be 100 percent assured that your online transactions are as secure as they can possibly be. We have taken all online security precautions available to us at present. Seabase is a secure site using enhanced encryption technology.

How do I check if I have a secure connection?
Our secure connection starts at the point you enter personal data on the checkout page.

To check that your computer and Seabase are transmitting information securely, check to see if you have a locked padlock or key on your browser window or taskbar at the bottom of your screen.

Double clicking the padlock or key displays the certificate of security. For your additional assurance you will notice the address is prefaced https://, the s signifying that the site is secure. Enhanced site security as listed above is automatically turned on at the point where credit/debit card information is input. All credit and debit card information is encrypted on our databases, so in the unlikely event that security was breached your sensitive information is still encrypted. In the unlikely event you may suspect the slightest breach of security contact us immediately for our instant attention.

The carriage price for your order is calculated at the checkout. You can update the carriage by selecting the correct country from the VIEW BASKET page, and if you are in the UK provide your postcode for more accurate carriage pricing. Please note all carriage must be insured against damage.

UK Shipping
Prices start from just £3 for small items that can go in the post. Anything hazardous, or blanks and surfboards, go by courier by default. Prices start from £9 for most UK postcodes, and slightly more for a few postcodes on offshore islands and some parts of Scotland. If we can’t calculate automatically the carriage price we’ll let you know at the checkout and we’ll contact you to confirm or reject the carriage.

International Shipping
We ship daily to international destinations – most of which are in Europe. We use either postal services (£5) or courier services depending on the weight and size of your shipment. Anything hazardous will go by courier. We believe we have some of the most competitive prices – for example up to 30 kgs in weight to Ireland, or France, is just £16 excluding packaging and/or insurance.

When will my order be shipped?
Your order is shipped, subject to stock, on the same day we receive your order – if we have the order by 10 am. If we can ship before the couriers arrive we’ll do it. We aim for next business day delivery for most UK postcodes – offshore islands and some northern parts of Scotland go on a 2 or 3-day service to make it cheaper for you.

Any exceptions to the website’s carriage calculation?
Yes – shipping this type of equipment is tricky; the carriage price is a good estimate, subject to change. If we need to increase the carriage price we will be in touch to confirm. If we negotiate a reduction we’ll reduce the carriage charge without any reference to you – you’ll just get a cheaper than expected invoice.

Surfboards are hand-crafted products. All our surfboards are warranted to be made from the finest materials to the highest specifications and standards by an experienced group of craftsmen.
Our surfboards are guaranteed to perform as intended by the shaper and designer. They utilises new industry methods, and are made using the most refined and proven materials. Like all sports equipment, no surfboard is guaranteed against breakage or damage, however caused, simply because the circumstances are out of our control. Surfing places huge demands on equipment; even small waves can create sufficient hydraulic pressure to snap a surfboard. The better the quality the less likely this is to happen; good surfboards are made with sufficiently strong qualities to absorb most impacts and flex. For 30 years we have sold surfboards made to our exacting standards, and inspected and approved each one before sale. Our reputation is behind them all.

FCS Futures, True Ames or Fins Unlimited make the advanced and technically futuristic fin system fitted to your board. The surfboard is quality-approved by Seabase, Europe’s largest independent distributor of advanced surfing equipment.

A full range of Beyond®, FCS®, True Ames and Quiver™ replacement fins, including the new Beyond lightweight Flexcore fins and Beyond Carboncore (the most advanced fins in the world) can be found at your local dealer, or from Seabase direct at www.seabase.eu.
For further security and to future-proof your surfboard, all replacement or enhancement our fins are guaranteed to fit the boxes fitted to your surfboard, and to be available as replacements for a period of five years from purchase. All our fins sold fit the boxes in all our boards – guaranteed.

Our surfboards are sold worldwide to a highly discerning client base. We make custom epoxy surfboards under the Quiver™ brand. For more details of our construction techniques, which vary depending on the board, call or e-mail us.

Summary of Surfboard Warranty: Our surfboards are warranted to made from the best materials to the highest known standards. Because of the nature of the sport of surfing, no guarantees against damage or breakage of surfboards are offered or implied.
