Fillers & Powders

Resins can be modified with the addition of fillers or powders that alter their properties. For example, Fumed Silica or Q-Cell is an extremely lightweight powder used to add thixotropy to resins so they can be used on vertical or curved surfaces, or to prevent draining. We also sell Micro-balloons, lightweight spheres of ceramics, which thicken and add volume to resins while remaining lightweight and spreadable for repairs and filling. (We do not use glass spheres, which are a notable health risk). Mill Fibre is a great random mix of fibreglass fibre originally taken form the floors of fibreglass mills, and now used as the perfect and safe additive for resins to make repairs and fill holes where fibre reinforcement is required. (For example, always add to resins before repairing stantions on marine craft, or before putting in boxes or plugs). Fibreglass Powder is ideal for similar uses, but can be a health hazard unless handled properly. Add Metal Powders to produce metallic effects in resins (brass for example).
