How much experience qualifies you as a manufacturer? Seabase has been in the surf industry since 1966, making surfboards for 30+ years with over 20,000 surfboards passing through our factory. Seabase has now sub-contracted its manufacturing of generic board brands to glass shops. We still design on cad-cam in-house, and we still machine cut and hand finish every single surfboard that bears our name. (See Seashape®.) That way we know performance will never be the issue. Our shapers are the best – particularly fussy – shapers who still know what a skill is. (Its a planer).
We’ve kept a great, knowledgeable and powerful customer base and guided them to the most progressive manufacturing in Europe with our own in-brand Quiver® range – a base we use to develop progressive manufacturing techniques and new and better materials. Our small team of progressive surfers test and report constantly – they all love surfing but aren’t fussed with the big time or contests. We introduced them to our parabolic Seaflex technology – they absolutely love them – and are moving them to the newer thin-carbon tech on the latest Seaflex® boards. Ask the surfer when you see the new Quiver® boards in the water.
We’ve also kept a small shop, making very up-market custom surfboards, just five a week and now totally out of Resin Research Epoxy using superfused EPS from US Blanks®. Our first big customer in 2017 is the RNLI, the UK’s Royal National Lifeboat Institute. Three years we made two test rescue boards from new construction techniques for their beach lifeguards – the boards were the lightest and best they had used, and are totally undamaged after three years. Three years later we’ve moved further into very refined surfboards using super thin carbon fibre in polyester matrix’s to control flex in a variety of ways, introducing for 2018 the Q-series of various construction standards that progress surfing to new levels. Trust us – we’ve a lifetime of love and experience going into every board we make. We only, ever, use the very best materials available in every board, guaranteed.
Note from the heart: We’ve been through the whole gamut of making famous brand boards under license, running teams and producing surfboards at prices for mass markets. We’re out of that completely now. The current low price always lead to quality issues, and still does, as many manufacturers use low-ball materials to keep prices down. Many surfboards are now a disposable product – an expensive one that needs constant marketing to keep gullible surfers more interested in brand than performance and progressive surfing. Sad, but true. We’re going in a different direction – one that puts the surfer first, not the price.
